A man will appear in court after two police officers were injured as they tried to make an arrest.

Police were called to a disturbance in Dale Lane, Blidworth, shortly before 2am on 9 September.

As officers attempted to detain a fleeing suspect they sustained minor injuries – one to the neck and the other to his hand.

Gavin Smith, aged 33, has been charged with one count of common assault to an emergency worker and one count of using threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.

Smith, of Thorney Abbey Road, Blidworth, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 30 September.

Inspector Susan Wain, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We take all reports of assaults against our officers extremely seriously and will always push for the strongest possible criminal sanctions in order to keep them safe.”
