Ride Along Scheme

Share by emailShare by email

The Ride Along Scheme has been put on hold due to the current corronavirus outbreak and will open again in due course.

Nottinghamshire Police is pleased to introduce a public 'Ride Along' scheme which is open to members of the public who reside in the county.

This scheme has been launched to allow us to give members of the community the opportunity to see how we work, as well as ensuring that what we do as a police service is open to scrutiny and feedback.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to follow police officers as they patrol the beat and attend 999 emergency calls across Nottinghamshire. The Ride Along scheme can involve going out with our neighbourhood policing teams, or with our response officers.

During a typical Ride Along, you can expect to see how our officers deal with local issues such as antisocial behaviour, how we work with partner agencies to keep the public safe, and the way in which we respond to emergency calls for help, plus much more. You may also have the opportunity to see a Stop and Search being undertaken.

You will also have plenty of opportunity to speak with the officer that you're crewed with about their role and work. If you're considering joining the force in the future, or have a general interest in the day-to-day work that our officers do, this is a perfect opportunity for you to find out more.

Eligibility and intelligence checks

You must live in the county of Nottinghamshire to be eligible to particpate in a Ride Along with us.

You must be at least 18 years old to take part in a Ride Along.

All applicants will be subject to local and criminal intelligence checks. A recorded offence will not automatically exclude you from taking part in the scheme; each applicant will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This will be performed by our Citizens in Policing department.

Nottinghamshire Police reserves the right to refuse participation in this scheme and to cancel the Ride Along at short notice as our ability to offer this could be affected by an increase in operational demand.

Confidentiality and observer briefings

All Ride Along experiences are risk-assessed to ensure personal safety is not compromised. All participants must read and agree to a Confidentiality Agreement and Observer Briefing sheet prior to commencing their tour.

Please download and complete the forms at the bottom of this page. Make sure to bring them with you.

Arranging your Ride Along

Once you have passed your local and criminal intelligence checks, they will be referred to the Ride Along scheme coordinator who will make contact with you to arrange a convenient time and location.

The initial vetting process can take up to 28 days and applicants are advised to allow up to two months from the point of submitting their application for it to take place.

Repeat Ride Along requests are welcome, but will be subject to demand and where demand is high, priority will be given to those who haven't previously taken part in the scheme.
