In the early hours of today (10 August 2017) Nottinghamshire Police were working at a site in Carlton Cemetery, Cavendish Road as part of an ongoing operation.

Detective Superintendent Rob Griffin said: “Following a review, in consultation with HM Coroner and a family, we have begun an investigation to establish the cause of a 43-year-old woman's death.

"Jennifer Blackwell died on 28 April 2017 in circumstances which, at the time, police believed to be non-suspicious. Following a review we have launched an investigation, for which an exhumation is deemed absolutely necessary.

"This is an unusual and extraordinarily sensitive matter, which Nottinghamshire Police is treating with great seriousness and respect.

"Jennifer's family have been, and will be kept updated and supported throughout this extremely distressing time and have requested privacy as I'm sure you can understand. They are very supportive of the work we are doing and we are accommodating their wishes as part of the very sensitive task at hand.

"Investigators are currently hard at work to learn what they can about the circumstances surrounding Jennifer's death.

"A 38-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of murder and will be questioned by officers in due course. He remains in police custody."

101 is the number to call when you need to contact Nottinghamshire Police and it’s less urgent than a 999 call. Calls cost 15p, no matter how long the call lasts.
