Officers are appealing for witnesses and information after an elderly woman was robbed in Sneinton.

The 78-year-old victim was approached from behind as she tried to enter a block of flats off Newark Street.

The male suspect pulled at her handbag, dragging her to the floor, and then continued to pull at the bag causing the woman to break her arm. She also suffered broken ribs, needed stitches for a wound to her left elbow and suffered grazing to her right elbow and wrist.

The suspect ran off with the bag. Inside it was her purse which contained bank cards, her bus pass, £30 cash, her mobile phone and glasses.

The bag was later recovered in an alleyway but the items inside have not been recovered.

The robbery happened at about 6.15pm on Wednesday (5 July 2017).

The suspect, who was chased by a member of the public, is described as being aged 15-18, of mixed race, about 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky build. He has short afro hair in tight curls and officers believe he may have been wearing a school blazer with blue around the collar and a blue shirt of T-shirt.
