A police officer made a swift arrest after being flagged down in his patrol car by a member of the public to report what appeared to be an attempted robbery.

The officer arrived at the scene to see a man assaulting two women in Forest Road West, Radford, at around 9am yesterday, and quickly made an arrest with the use of a Taser, which was drawn but not fired. He also recovered a knife.

Thirty-one-year-old Romain Lyken, of Peveril Street, Radford, was charged with two offences of assault by beating, one offence of common assault and possession of a bladed article in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court today (Friday 18 May).

101 is the number to call when you need to contact Nottinghamshire Police and it’s less urgent than a 999 call. Calls cost 15p, no matter how long the call lasts.
