We received a report that a man had been seen with what looked like a firearm in Cowpes Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield at around 7.10am today (Friday 6 July 2018).

Armed officers attended and a 37-year-old man was arrested nearby in Farndale Road on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

An imitation firearm, believed to be a BB gun, was recovered not far from the scene.

Officers visited Quarrydale Academy nearby to give reassurance about the police presence and firearms officers but do not believe this incident was connected to the school in any way.
