Earlier this week a group of 11 special constables were given the opportunity to be trained in Road Incident Scene Safety (RISS).

The officers based at a variety of stations throughout the county gave up their own time to attend a-day-and-a-half training, which included a day of ‘on road’ exercises at Darley Moor racetrack in Derbyshire.

The training is designed to give officers the knowledge, skills and awareness to safely implement lane closures on the road network and also gives the them more awareness of safety and working practices when dealing with road related incidents.  RISS training is currently given to all student officers during their initial training, but this is the first time that this type of training has been rolled out to special constables. This will now allow them to be able to assist with policing the road network safely and effectively.

101 is the number to call when you need to contact Nottinghamshire Police and it’s less urgent than a 999 call. Calls cost 15p, no matter how long the call lasts.
