Last month, Nottinghamshire Police conducted an operation targeting child sexual abuse; particularly internet facilitated offending, from viewing indecent images of children, live streaming abuse and grooming. This was done in collaboration with the National Crime Agency and the National Police Chief’s Council.

In Nottinghamshire, we executed a total of 15 warrants and seized over 500 exhibits. This operation saw one of the biggest seizures of computers, hard drives and sophisticated media set ups recorded by us as a force. Cannabis was also seized from some of the properties.

As a result of the operation, 14 men were arrested. They have been interviewed and bailed or released under investigation whilst enquiries are on-going. Nineteen children have been identified as being connected to those arrested and the appropriate safeguarding measures have been put in place to protect them.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Quinn, Head of Child Abuse, said:  “This was a nationally coordinated operation which looked to ensure we arrested those who seek to use and abuse vulnerable people through online channels.

“We have already seen prosecuted cases in Nottinghamshire where suspects have been facilitating abuse from their homes, affecting victims from all over the world.

“This is not an isolated week; we always work hard to target this kind of offender and we want to make it clear that this is not tolerated in Nottinghamshire. We have dedicated teams that continually investigate and arrest those targeting children.

“These sorts of offences have life-long devastating impacts on victims and we need to continue to work with our partners to keep people safe from harm, through education and enforcement.”
