On Friday 1 December Nottingham will be proudly hosting the first public appearance of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the announcement of their engagement earlier this week.

The couple will be visiting the Nottingham Contemporary to support the Terrence Higgins World Aids Day charity fair.

The city is extremely busy at this time of year anyway, but due to road closures there will be significant delays from 7am through to the afternoon.

The following roads will be closed to all vehicles and have limited pedestrian access:

Hollowstone

High Pavement

St Mary’s Gate

Middle Hill

Weekday Cross

A decision may be made on the day to close Fletcher Gate to all traffic in both directions, including the trams and buses, depending on the scale of the crowds.

Car parks will also be affected so please check the City Council website for more details:  http://www.mynottinghamnews.com/

You can also follow us on Twitter for more updates @nottspolice

As with any Royal visit, large crowds are anticipated throughout the city, therefore there will be a large police presence throughout to ensure the safety of all involved in marking this occasion.

101 is the number to call when you need to contact Nottinghamshire Police and it’s less urgent than a 999 call. Calls cost 15p, no matter how long the call lasts.
