On Sunday 5 August, Nottinghamshire Police’s Dragon Boat team took part in the Riverside Festival 2018.

The Dragon Boat Challenge saw 27 local organisations such as Nottingham City Homes, J A Stephens, Royal Naval Reserve (HMS Sherwood), Domino’s and DHL Nottingham as well as Nottinghamshire Police compete in aid of Rainbow’s Hospice for Children.

The Dragon Boat Challenge competition was the main event on Sunday at the festival, which is the largest family event in Nottingham this summer.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Dragon Boat team, The Interceptors, were one of only 10 crews made up of a mix of men and women. They competed in three heats with nine boats progressing to the semi-finals, the Interceptors made the semi-finals as fourth fastest boat of the day.

In the semi-finals they upset the odds and won a place in the three boat final.

The Interceptors were the only mixed crew in the final as both other crews were all male. The 3 boats in the final were separated by 0.75 seconds with the Interceptors taking bronze overall.

The Interceptors team manager, Andy Townsend said: “It was a great day for such a varied squad, we had paddlers weighing from 7–20 stone with some total novices and a new drummer. The way they all pulled together to beat so many other crews was a testament to the teamwork of Notts Police and made me proud to be a part of it.”

Congratulations to the team.
