Advice on who to contact to report a problem with noise to.

When to contact your local council or Nottingham Community Protection

Nottinghamshire Police are not always best-placed to deal with complaints about noise, including reports of:

  • Loud music, DIY and raised voices from domestic properties
  • Dogs barking for prolonged periods
  • Faulty burglar alarms or vehicle alarms
  • Noise pollution from commercial, industrial, demolition or construction sites and premises

Who to contact

To report a problem with noise or antisocial behaviour in the Nottingham City area, please contact Nottingham Community Protection using the contact details provided below.

Contact details for reporting an issue with noise to local district councils in all other areas of Nottinghamshire are also available below.

Before making a complaint to your local council or Nottingham Community Protection

If you feel comfortable doing so, talk to those responsible. They may not be aware of the problem and could take steps to address the issue there and then.

If this fails, contact your local council or Nottingham Community Protection using the contact details provided below.

For longer-term problems, they may ask you to keep a diary of the issue to help them understand the extent of the problem.

When to call the police

We ask that you only call Nottinghamshire Police to report a problem with noise if you believe:

  • It’s an emergency
  • There is a crime taking place
  • There is a threat to someone’s life or their property
  • The noise may linked to domestic violence or another violent confrontation

In these cases, please call Nottinghamshire Police immediately on the 999 emergency number.

If you do call Nottinghamshire Police to report a complaint about noise other than in an emergency, we may share your report with the local authority in your area who may decide to look into this further.
